NZ Motor Racing Index

This site aims to build an archive of NZ motorsport history, as it relates to four wheeled circuit and road race orientated activity, and to make that information accessible online to all.
In addition to an index of events and the drivers and cars who entered them, it will in due course include a scanned archive of the programmes, magazines and other literature that helps tell that story.
The index is largely based on event programmes with further details added or clarified as available from other sources. Actual events may have differed from what was recorded, for example drivers who were DNA (did not arrive) or who arrived with a different car to what was originally entered in the programme. Additional sources are not always in agreement either. When these things occur I have attempted to record them.
Entries are in the first instance as they were recorded in the programme or other source and then later updated to link them to existing records (something that will be an ongoing task as the index grows). Care is taken to ensure that records are correctly linked but mistakes will be made. If one is spotted and you can help correct it please get in touch.
The building of this archive will take a significant number of years and is dependant on obtaining the source material which details these events. If you can contribute programmes, magazines, club newsletters, anything at all that helps build this archive and tell the story of NZ motorsport history then please get in touch.
After documents have been digitised and included online for all to access the physical copies will be passed to appropriate archives (likely the Hocken Library in Dunedin) so they can be properly preserved and accessible to generations to come.
The first phase of this project is focussed on the "golden era", from the late 40s through until the 60s, the major events of that period and my fascination with the great NZ Specials. Earlier periods will follow after that.
